Thailand has been one of the South East Asian countries that have mold its table throughout the years by investing into food innovation not only for their people but also the world. Yet, no wonder that the country, like its tradition, developed its rich taste into a more exquisite flavor. This year, Thailand hosted another successful run of the 21st Food Innovation Asia Conference, a three-day event packed of scientific research presentations and breakthroughs in the food sector hence coined the term “what’s new?”
With the campaign, Future Food Innovation for Better Health and Wellness, distinguished guests and reputable speakers around the globe have been invited to partake their insights about updates in the food industry. University students from Thailand also had their participation on the oral and poster presentations.
The conference was spearheaded by Food Science and Technology Association of Thailand (FoSTAT), Agro-Industry Academic Council Association (AIAC), Khon Kaen University, Suranaree University of Technology, and AOAC Thailand Section. Moreover, it was held concurrently with one of the biggest equipment exhibition, ProPak Asia 2019.
Asst. Prof. Dr. Anadi Nitithamyong, President FoSTAT, opened the ceremony by highlighting the significance of the development of food science and technology in sustaining safe, quality and nutritious food. It was then followed by impressive lectures from formidable speakers, especially Professor Dr. Suwimon Keeratipibul on her research Environmental Monitoring Tools for Controlling Listeria spp. Contamination in Food Products, winner of Ajinomoto – FoSTAT Award for Outstanding Food Science and Technology Research 2019.
On its second day, Assistant Professor Dr. Akkharawit Kanjana-Opas, CEO FoodInnopolis and Vice President National Science and Technology Development Agency - Ministry of Science and Technology Thailand, left the audience in awe as he confidently introduced FoodInnopolis Thailand, a global innovation hub as a gateway to ASEAN. Meanwhile, universities all over the country competed on the FoSTAT – Nestle Quiz Bowl 2019 on the last day of the event.
Guangzhou Microtus International Biotechnology Co. Ltd., on the other hand, tied up on this occasion to commit the promise of delivering solutions to develop safe quality food by engaging its products and services.
